Big Sky Alpacas are situated at Sunnyvale Farm, Bean Creek, Northern New South Wales. Bean Creek is situated in Kyogle Shire, within the Tooloom Ranges area, and is easily accessed from Casino, Tenterfield and Brisbane. Big Sky Alpacas is owned by Michelle Malt (with support from husband Paul), and weekday management is handled by Orme and Sandra Malt.

We breed huacaya alpacas, and began our herd with 4 animals in September 2005. Our herd has grown through purchases and breeding to 27 alpacas, including 4 new cria who arrived in autumn 2009. The herd is a mix of white, fawns (light, medium and dark) and brown alpacas. Currently we have three working stud males: Leranda Ridge Phoenix ET (solid white) arrived on farm in  December, and has just commenced stud duties;  Big Sky Snow Prince (solid white), and Bellawood Hercules (solid light fawn).

We are members of the Southern Qld and Northern New South Wales region of the Australian Alpaca Association, and Michelle is an active participant in the activities of the local region and serves on the regional committee.

Michelle and Paul own a nearby property, Big Sky, where we run a herd of Black Angus and Brangus beef cattle. Our on-farm activities are mainly restricted to weekends and holidays, as an alternative to our office based professional lives.
